DONNA WERLING
PROCESSING…
Spotlight Gallery July 29 through September 4, 2022
“Processing” represents my attempt to use intuitive expressionism
to process the past few years of my life:
COVID, war, political divisiveness, inequities, mass shootings,
extinction of species due to human greed,
and the lack of basic kindness are fed to us by the media constantly.
By creating these pieces my mind dismantles each and puts it through a process which reassembles, intuitively, my world expressing my opinion. The resulting pieces insist that my opinions be heard.
Donna Werling is a native of Baltimore Maryland who has lived in Franklin County, Pennsylvania for the past 16 years. After many years of part time study while working full time and raising a family, she received a BA in Fine and Studio Arts and a Minor in Women’s Studies from Wilson College in 2021.
Her art reflects her experiences as a working wife and mother attempting to further her education and to overcome the challenges for women in society.
Artist Statement –
My art is a release of my emotions brought on by experiencing life as a woman during this challenging time in history. Using acrylic paints on canvas, I paint in the intuitive expressionist style where there is little planning, and the act of creating is considered more important than the piece. During this process, I use color, shape, form, and layering to evoke feelings which may vary depending on the viewer, but should be close to reflecting what I felt while creating it. In this way, my art is meditative as it allows me to process world and societal events.
