I came late to the world of art—beginning in my 60’s. I had always said “I don’t have any artistic ability.” When I decided to try to overcome my fear of artistic creation, I walked into an oil painting class and said “I can’t draw a stick figure.”  My wonderful teacher said:  “Good, we don’t teach stick figures here.”  She bought my first horse painting.

What I came to realize is that when we create, we reveal ourselves in our own unique way. I have found a style that emanates from me---that conveys how I feel and how I experience art through the freedom to express myself. Most of my paintings are of landscapes or horses—but are occasionally just expressions of emotions.

  • the mask painting

I have a strong passion for horses and they have always been a part of my life. Most of the days of my teenage years were filled with riding my horse in the Columbia River Gorge countryside in the Pacific Northwest. Horses have an inherent beauty, grace, strength, and freedom that I experience whether galloping them across an open field or just watching them.

I love to paint through the medium of oils—they glide smoothly across the canvas and mix to make beautiful forms and colors. Though I might be inspired by something I see, my paintings take on a life of their own. They are not planned out—just experienced.
