Lost and Found
The Foundry artists member show about what they have lost and found during covid.
It seems like a good time to try and get some perspective about our pandemic year.
Not that things are back to normal, but we can look back now,
and take stock of what we have lost
– and the many things we have missed –
and focus too on what new interests and opportunities we might have found, as well.

2020 happened
I "lost" my daily focus
of running my handweaving studio
as art show after art show cancelled.
Time extended itself in ways
not known for 38 or so years.
There was time to think about
life, and other possibilities of
each day's work.
Time was spent
examining other
portals
of existence.

At the beginning of the shutdown, I went home like everyone else. While trying to figure out what was going on the need for masks became evident. I began making my first 300 masks for the Borough of Chambersburg. I felt the loss of time, loss of art, the loss of life, the loss of heart of politicians, leaders, and those who only cared for themselves. I hope the simple pieces of cloth I made kept people safe.

Loneliness

'As time wore on over the last year, being afraid to see our friends, touch anyone or do anything we considered 'normal' my depression took over to the point it was difficult to get out of bed or leave the house. My world became so small and lonely for a long time'.

This clock is missing its numbers. We so often take for granted the time we have, but we also lose so much of it for unnecessary endeavors. Covid forced us to reprioritize how and where our time was spent. We felt like we lost so much... graduations, proms, weddings, concerts... but in other ways we gained valuable time we were missing to spend with our families. But for some, the isolation was horrible. The months of not seeing our people and being able to share space with them is something we’ll never forget.
