My beloved mother-in-law, Bernice S. Gottfried (1918—2014) was an accomplished artist working in oils and later focused her creative talents in clay.
When she died, she left behind an impressive body of work.
There were also many unfinished canvases
that I didn’t have the heart to send to the landfill.
One night I had a dream to take her unfinished pieces
and weave them with my own unfinished works.
I ripped the canvases into strips and then mixed up the resulting pile
and randomly wove them into different shapes.
I then decided to add ceramic elements to pay homage to her second love of clay.
The combination produced a beautiful array of colors and textures.
The final result is an seven piece collection called “Finished/Unfinished”
